In August 1995, 21-year-old Grateful Dead fan Matt travels to the place where the counterculture was born: the Haight-Ashbury district of San Francisco. There, Matt finds friends who follow the hippie culture of the 1960s and teach him the art of living homeless in Golden Gate Park.
At first it’s blissful; just friends enjoying music, marijuana, and free love. But Matt also encounters shady drug dealers, con artists, and young teens with no place else to go. And living on alcohol, cigarettes, and scraps of leftover food takes its toll.
Eventually, Matt must choose between saving his own life or saving a friend. The decision he makes will change him forever.
