Siddharta: An Indian Tale by Herman Hesse

07/19/2022
"Siddhartha" is a pearl of prose, one of the best works of Hermann Hesse. Its pages reflect the writer's travels in India, as well as his interest in Eastern religions. This story is worth reading and rereading not because of the plot or the search for knowledge it describes, but because of the deep understanding that is uncovered in the story--the feeling of unity with others in our vibrant world. The story ties in with current appreciation of meditation, where one can quietly sense the rhythms of nature. “Wisdom cannot be imparted. Wisdom that a wise man attempts to impart always sounds like foolishness to someone else ... Knowledge can be communicated, but not wisdom. One can find it, live it, do wonders through it, but one cannot communicate and teach it.” ― Hermann Hesse, Siddhartha
